To follow up on Otto's post on Luke 2:14, it is interesting to note that the Aramaic phrase 'bX 'rbsw - which I have translated "Good News", is "eudokia" -"Good will", or "eudokiav" -"of Good will" ,in Greek.
The Aramaic 'rbsw comes from rbs , for which The Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon, rbs (a/o) vb. \f3to think, meditate, intend, understand, be of the opinion\f1 (---> 'rbs , rbs ; CPA \f7sbr\f1 LSp 130, SA rbs Ham 584:179, MH rbs Moreshet, Lex 238) Pe. 1. to think(a.1) to be of the opinion Gal, Syr, JBA. 1 to reason, derive by logical deduction Jud, JBA. --(b) to understand Jud, JBA, Man. --© to understand properly, i.e. to believe religiously JBA. --(d) to be aware JBA.
3 idioms: Man. --(a) + ghk: to mock s.o. Man.

I underlined the meaning the Greek seems to follow: "intend" -"will". This is a possible sense for the word, though not very likely. The oldest Greek mss., including Codex W , which I believe is a 1st century ms. of the Gospels (the reasons for which I will explain later) has the longer Greek reading: "eudokiav". This can be explained as a result of misreading 'bX 'rbsw -"and good will" as 'bX 'rbsd -"of good will". So both Greek readings can be traced to The Peshitta reading.
