Shlama all--
If you want to see some truly amazing Tanakh research pre Dead Sea Scrolls I have two tremendous resources to show you. These really drill down to the minutia in a thorough and interesting way about mss and how they read.
The first is a Hebrew-English treatise (Elijah Ben Asher!) on the notes of the Masoretes, compiled by Christian Ginsburg: http://www.archive.org/details/themasso ... 00ashuuoft
The second is a great introduction also by Christian Ginsburg on all the textual critical apparatus of the MT itself: http://www.archive.org/details/introduc ... 00ginsuoft
Enjoy!
