Couple of questions for Paul
#1
Shlama Akhi Paul,

My questions are (#1) - Do you have any info on the Palpel verbal conjugation in any of your Aramaic grammars that you can scan and upload?
(#2) - In Yaqub 4:10, where James Murdock translates " Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you," wouldn't the idea be 'repeatedly or continually exalt you' since this is in the Palpel verbal conjugation?

Shlama Akhay,

Not only does James 4:10 have a word in the palpel verbal conjugation but also James 1:9.

Here's William Norton's translation of this verse from the Peshitta followed by the word I'm referring to--

"And let the brother of lowly [lot] glory in his high position;"

Here's the Aramaic word that he translated "in his high position"

Thackston just has a little blurb on it in the last section of his grammar about the Vocalic patterning being exactly like the Pael pattern. He lists the three types of Palpel form, essentially they are:

(1) Quadriliterals (roots containing four distinct consonants (e.g., "TRGM")
(2) Biliterals (roots containing 2 distinct consonants), the two consonants are reduplicated (as in this example "RMRM" from "RM" - SEDRA erroneously identifies the root as RWM)
(3) Triliterals (3 consonants) have the third radical reduplicated (e.g., "ABDD" from "ABD")

Yes, the meaning would be "would greatly exalt you."
