Hi John,

The word comes from the verbal root QBL. The primary meaning of this root is "accept, receive" and in fact is used in this sense for the familiar Jewish Gnosticism of "Kabbalah" (or more accurately spelled, Qabbala). I translated it "receive" in Acts 3:21 - although the root does have a wide variety of possible meanings (I may change it to "take up" now that I look at it a little closer.)
