Another Peshitta antiquity proof
#3
Andrew Gabriel Roth Wrote:Shlama Akhi Larry,
...Aavoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions, and the theological arguments of the scribes, for they are unprofitable and vain. After you have admonished the heretic once or twice, shun him, knowing he is such is corrupt; he sins and condemns himself.

The way I've always taken that is that the masses (either Christian or Jewish) are generally only aware of the most fundamental foundations of faith, while "the experts" know all the interesting aspects of the holy Scriptures.

They know about the places where manuscripts vary.
They know about how sometimes words are translated a certian way, when the actually meaning is slightly different, but could lead to a heresy, so they opt for another word which they consider 'safer'.
They know how to use logic to argue all sorts of things which doesn't benefit our faiths whatsoever.
Did Adam have a navel? How many days was it before Adam and Eve ate the forbidden tree before after being created? How many angels can dance on a pinhead?

You will find both Christians and Jews who are focused on the fundamentals of faith.
And you will also find Christians and Jews who focus on accessories of faith.

I take that verse to mean don't waste your time. And don't mess with your head by thinking about things you really shouldn't be.
