She shall name him,...
#1
Wanted to show you guys something about that little discovery we found a few weeks back. This is from my Online Bible program. Look at who shall name the child through the different verses. Now I know the Aramaic primalists will start drooling, barking, and howling at the moon hehe, but the change we found stuck with me, and decided to look it up,...and bingo!

14 (MUR)
14 (LAMSA) Therefore the LORD himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
14 (ASV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, {1} a {2} virgin {3} shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name {4} Immanuel. {1) Or the 2) Or maiden 3) Or is with child, and beareth 4) That is God is with us}
14 (DOUAY) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son and his name shall be called Emmanuel.
14 (ROTHRHAM) Wherefore let My Lord Himself give you a sign,???Lo! a Virgin, being with child and giving birth to a son, thou wilt call his name Immanuel.
14 (RWEBSTR) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. {shall call: or, thou, O virgin, shalt call}
14 (YLT) Therefore the Lord Himself giveth to you a sign, Lo, the Virgin is conceiving, And is bringing forth a son, And hath called his name Immanuel,
14 (AV) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. {shall call: or, thou, O virgin, shalt call}
14 (NKJV) "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. {Literally God-With-Us}

Interesting huh? <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

This does show how the Peshitta got it right and kept it right in accordance with the OT. In fact, if there was some look into this, I dought if any of the others actually got it right, IE Greek, Latin, Etc

This agrees with the angel saying she would name him to her actually naming Him at the end of the chapter.

I think everyone knew that already. But you brought up an interesting thing which bugged me for a while (I shall add that btw to contro forum). Our OT experts should know. Whassup with Emmanuel and Jesus? Different names...

I remember some Hebrew dude saying that the Hebrew can also read "and she shall say that He is God with us", but what do our esteemed colleagues think?

It would be nice to know the correct way the name is spelled. I mean with the I or E in Emmanuel.

I wanted to point out that the normal person does not realize the inconsistancy and how the Peshitta held the correct rendering. It makes a big difference, and it shows how someone changed this part of the text. If I copied all the translations for the same passage in the NT, everyone would say he would name him except for Murdock and Lamsa's translation.
