book of Hebrews: better from Greek, or Aramaic?
#57
"animal sacrifice is not required for the forgiveness of sins. Hosea 14:3" Do you think that following the prayer request posed to God with [MT Hosea 14:3]"Say, 'You [God] shall forgive all iniquity and teach us [the] good [way], and let us render [for] bulls [the offering of] our lips,' God answered, 'Yes, you can now substitute the offering of your lips-- the sacrifice system detailed in the Torah is now unnecessary'?
Do you want Temple sacrifices started up again? How confident are you that "[the offering of]" belongs there in rendering the Masoretic Hebrew into English? The Masoretic is recent; how confident are you that "bulls" was present in Hosea over 2,000 years ago? (The LXX into English produced "the fruit of our lips," and the Peshitta Tanakh into English produced [Lamsa]"the prayer of your lips" and [Bauscher]"the fruit of your lips.") The Targum doesn't say words can replace sacrifices.
Sacrifices were done into the temple until the time it was destroyed, which occurred by the end of A.D. 70. Are you aware of *anybody* who said prior to the Temple's destruction, 'sacrifices are no longer necessary'?
Is "render bulls our lips" sensical? Does it appear *anywhere* else in the Masoretic? Is "return the fruit of our lips" sensical?

Hosea 14, from the Masoretic
https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo...ter-14.htm 2 Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled in your iniquity.
3 Take words with yourselves and return to the Lord. Say, "You shall forgive all iniquity and teach us [the] good [way], and *let us render [for] bulls [the offering of] our lips.*
4 Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses, nor will we say any longer, our gods, to the work of our hands, for in You, by Whom the orphan is granted mercy."

Hosea 14 (Brenton Septuagint Translation), https://biblehub.com/sep/hosea/14.htm
1 Return, O Israel, to the Lord thy God; for the people have fallen through thine iniquities.
2 Take with you words, and turn to the Lord your God: speak to him, that ye may not receive the reward of unrighteousness, but that ye may *receive good things:* *and we will render in return the fruit of our lips.*
3 Assur shall never save us; we will not mount on horseback; we will no longer say to the works of our hands, Our gods. He who is in thee shall pity the orphan.

Hosea 14 (Peshitta Tanakh, Lamsa translation), http://superbook.org/LAMSA/HOS/hos14.htm
1 O ISRAEL, return to the LORD your God;
for you have fallen by your iniquity.
2 Pledge loyalty, and turn to the LORD your God;
and pray to him, that he may forgive your iniquity and receive blessings;
then *he will recompense you for the prayer of your lips.*
3 And say, Assyria shall not save us;
we will not ride upon horses;
neither will we call any more the work of our hands, gods;
for thou wilt have mercy upon the fatherless.

Hosea 14 (Peshitta Tanakh, David Bauscher translation)

2 Turn, Israel, to LORD JEHOVAH your God, because you have been subverted by your evil
3 Take for yourself words and be converted to LORD JEHOVAH your God and speak to him that he may forgive you your evil, and receive good, and *he shall reward you the fruit of your lips*

Proverbs 18:20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the *fruit of his mouth;*
and with *the increase of his lips* shall he be filled.
Isaiah 57:19 I create the *fruit of the lips;*
Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near,
saith the Lord; and I will heal him.
Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us *offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.*

KJV, https://www.biblegateway.com/quicksearch...ersion=KJV
Proverbs 12:14 A man shall be satisfied with good by *the fruit of his mouth:*
and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Proverbs 13:2 A man shall eat good by *the fruit of his mouth:*
but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

2. Return, O Israel, to the fear of the Lord your God, for you have fallen because of your sin.
3. Bring with you words of confession and return to the worship of the Lord. Say before him, "It is near before you to forgive iniquities", then we shall be accepted as good. Let the words of our lips be accepted before you with favour like bullocks on your altar!
