Gabra as Father in Mandean text

I came across an interesting paper describing the "secret" teachings of the Mandeans.  This aramaic text was recently translated and this paper discusses some of the religious concepts.  While not dealt with specifically, several of the author's points deal with the concept of "gabra" which is clearly translated and meant as "father" and not "husband".

"Gabra" in all Aramaic dialects just means the generic "man", in contrast to "Talia" which means "boy."

So a father and a husband can be referred to as "gabra".

Hence, it was Mary's father who shared the same common name as her future husband, and both were properly referred to as her "gabra."

Keep in mind that Mandaic uses /gabra/ and other words in a variety of mystical senses which are not colloquial use by any means. Sorting through Mandaic theology is not for the faint of heart.
