The Bread of Truth

I knew it had multiple translation possibilities but I didn't realize all of that. I need to start getting deeper into my Aramaic studies still <!-- sBlush --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/blush.gif" alt="Blush" title="Blush" /><!-- sBlush -->

Semitic languages in particular are much more context centered than languages in other families. In order to properly translate Aramaic you often need to examine an entire phrase or even sentence. Unlike English, for example, where the opposite is true. In English words and grammatical tokens rarely vary in meaning depending on their position relative to other words, or the classification of words around them.

It is a difficult concept to become adjusted to.

Thanks for the clarifications, Shamasha Paul. So, is it safe to say that "The Bread of Truth", "The Bread of Alaha", "The Bread of Life", and "The Bread of MarYa"...is all talking about the same thing, M'shikha's Body, which He has given to be Life for the world. I would think that The Church of the East teaches that John 6:51-58 is speaking of The Holy Qurbana/Eucharist, right?

Shlama Akhi Chuck,

Yes, that is correct - that is the teaching of the Apostolic Faith (esp, c.f. verse 55)

So, Akhi Paul, is lakhma d' qushta (literally "Bread of truth") simply the Aramaic way of saying "true bread" or "real bread"?

Yes, that's how Aramaic constructs Adjectival Phrases.

nasha d Alaha (man of God, or adjectival phrase "Godly man")

So, this "True Bread" or "Real Food", is literally The Body of our Lord, which we literally are to eat, which is The Eucharist or The Qadisha Qurbana (The Holy Offering).

?For my Body truly is food, and my Blood truly is drink.? John 6:55

"And Yeshua said to them, ?Timeless truth I speak to you: Unless you eat The Body of The Son of Man and drink His Blood, you have no Life in yourselves.? John 6:53

Does the Church of the East teach transubstantation (that the food presented during the Eucharist becomes the flesh and blood of the Messiah)?

Akhi Dylan, you could get a more detailed answer from the book called "Mysteries of the Kingdom" by Mar Awa Royel, and if you get it, read pages 257-263 which speak of it.

I'll quote a few lines here, but it goes into much more detail and explains it in the full passages.

"Therefore, at the very outset it must be said that the Assyrian Church of the East strictly, continuously, and in keeping with the Apostolic Tradition of the blessed apostles of Christ and the words of Sacred Scripture itself, believes that the bread and wine consecrated at the Eucharistic celebration of the Church are indeed the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, according to his own word." page 257

"Obviously, Jesus could not give his human flesh and human blood to be consumed by his disciples, for this would be in direct violation of the precepts of the Mosaic Law; rather, he gives his Body and Blood to his disciples under the visible elements of bread and wine." page 262

"... the Lord Jesus has taken these two very basic and common foods and has transformed their simple/common existence into something that is the vehicle of the Holy Spirit to impart divine life and grace." page 262

"...we eat and drink the Body and Blood that suffered and was poured out, but perfected and glorified in their transformation at the Lord's Resurrection." page 263
