The Sabboth
#16
This is a very interesting topic, guy! I personally find the arguments that Jesus rose on the Sabbath a bit weak, but still fascinating to read about and listen to. I agree, that the important thing is that Jesus the Messiah rose from the grave!

No! I was not happy with the traditional Sunday morning service because there is God's commandment which requires man to keep the Sabbath holy but the sanctifying of the First day of the week is based on Yeshua's resurrection day, which is fine but traditional rather then an obligation. There is also the problem of whether the first day of the (feast of) weeks was the resurrection day, in which case by lunar calculations any day of the week can be the first day of the feast of weeks.
What I do on the Sabbath must be under the headship of the Lord of the Sabboth. As Mashiach is my Guide I can do miracles on the Sabbath, with His help. Note 4 page 667 of AENT should read Note 5. bahyoma dahmarnuyah is not a specific day of the week Roth says.
My other half has just returned from Baptist Church!

I personally think that we keep the Sabbath by relying in Christ for salvation. Hebrews 4:9 appears to be the only Scripture that can be construed as commanding Christians to keep the Sabbath:

"Therefore, it is established for the people of Alaha to be given a rest (Aramaic: Shabta)."- Aramaic Peshitta New Testament Translation: Messianic Version

Here is the full context:

Therefore, we should fear, so that while the promise of an entrance into his rest is firm, none of you will be found to fall short when [it is time] to enter. For we also were brought the gospel, as they were, but the word did not profit those who heard, because it was not mixed with faith by those who heard it. But we who believe are entering into rest. But as he said: As I swore in my anger, "They will not enter into my rest." For behold, the works of Alaha were from the beginning of the world. As he said about the Shabtha: Alaha rested on he seventh day from all his works. And here again, he said: They will not enter into my rest. Therefore, because there was a place that each one should enter and those first [ones] who were brought the gospel did not enter since they were not persuaded, again he set another day after a long time, as it was written above, for Dawid said: Today if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. For if Yeshue (Joshua), the son of Nun, had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day. Therefore, it is established for the people of Alaha to be given a rest. For he who enters into his rest has also rested from his works, as Alaha [rested] from his. Therefore we should be diligent to enter into that rest, so that we will not fall in the likeness of those who were not persuaded.- Hebrews 4:1-11

To me, it seems very clear that the Sabbath rest commanded in the Mosaic Torah is not what is being discussed here. To me, this seems to be talking about resting from relying on meritorious deeds in order to justify yourself before Yahweh. We observe the Sabbath in Yeshua Meshikha by relying on His work on the cross for salvation and not on our own works.

That is the True Sabbath, Dylan. The one the type and shadow was always pointing to.

Thank you for reassuring me of new testament truth as to the Sabbath. A true Christian is neither a Saturday or a Sunday worshiper. Mere Church going is of course keeping up appearances. I will try again on the contact link you gave me but the site was not up and running last time I tried.

Every day belongs to MarYa Alaha (Lord Yahweh God) and we belong to Him everyday, meant to be prepared constantly to be used by Him. There is no point in going to church if you're doing it because you feel like you have to. You go to church to get spiritually refilled and to learn from God's Word. Without the body of Christ (not talking about just the local church, but the church that is the Bride of the Messiah), I would not be standing on the Rock still.

As an oldie, my cyber space street cred is backward, but I have now managed the 15 pages on the one subject Maya Deception??? and see how the subscribers come to wrestle with the problem. As you know the problem is beside the point as far as I am concerned seeing God's appearance to man and known by the name YHWH does not need a replaced word or name. That is LORD replaces YHWH in the King James bible and Maya in the Aramaic.
I am not happy but please bear with me. I was always taught that Genesis 1 starts with with the more abstract view of God as Elohim. We say in English that God created the world in six days. It is not until chapter 2 and the fall of Adam that YHWH is brought into the story as having a relationship with man.
It is of course true that YHWH is God. I asked my modern Hebrew Teacher once what she understood by the word YHWH and she said YHWH means God!
Why does the Trilinear Targum use the Aramaic Yod,waw, yod for Elohim? Yahwi may be the pronunciation, is it?
You can see that if the Peshitta starts with a form of YHWH for God then its about time that my time honoured understanding was revised.
