Yukhanan 11:16 Tawma who is called "tama"
#1
Shlama,

I don't know if this is exactly the right category. Let me just go with it and see what happens. The gospel of Yukhanan is the only of the four that gives us the word-play behind the name of apostle Thomas. It is actually in three different verses but pretty much the same wording every time.

What's interesting to me is the way this is handled by the greek translators. They transliterate the name Tawma (is this name of greek or aramaic origin? anybody?) to give us Thomas, but when it comes to his nickname, they translate it into greek: Tama becomes Didymos, so we lose the pun.
