Elmwood Cemetery Estrangelo Text Monuments
#2
borota Wrote:I pass almost daily by Elmwood Cemetery, near Chicago. Every time I can't but notices the many funeral monuments with Estrangelo writings on them and names like Younan, Yonan, Yohanna, Younia, Malek, etc.
As far as I know there are no Assyrian communities in the area though.
So today I finally took the time to look into this matter. Google search directed me to this article: http://www.jaas.org/edocs/v10n2/yoab2.pdf
The article, besides solving my puzzle, provides a short history of the Assyrian communities in Chicago land area. Fascinating! I recommend it as good, informative read to anybody interested.

P.S. By the way, if anybody does know of Assyrian families in the area, do let me know.

Hi Greg, thanks for the informative post! Both of my parents and my sister (and grandparents, uncles, etc.) are buried in Elmwood cemetery. I'll likely be buried there someday as well, as we have several plots left for the family that they had bought decades ago, all grouped together in the same area.
