John 15,8 and more
#1
Shlama.
I have a question regarding John 15;8:
"... and that you be my disciples" Does it mean here, they already "are" His disciples, or "that you become ..."?
Sorry, but since I cannot read / speake Aramaic, I depend on the English translation only.

Two other more general questions:
1) Is there a possibility to buy this Peshitta English translation?
2) Could you please suggest to me any CD / CD rom for learning Assyrian (modern spoken) language via English (am a native German speaker)?
I prefer audio versions for language learning.
Thanks a lot and may our Lord bless all those people buisyed with this wanderful translation of Peshitta.
I do use it a lot.

Kind regards

Hello Dani,
Go to this website - http://www.aramaicpeshitta.com/

And click on "Bible Repository" on the left side. And you will see couple of Peshitta Translations. I highly recommend the Younan Bible, Etheridge Bible, and Murdock Bible.

In regards to John 15:8, the Aramaic appears to read in this manner:

`d:phi-re- sa`giye-- `tay`tuwn
w:theh:wuwn `tal:miy:day

of-the-fruits the-many ye-to-bring,
and-ye-to-become my-disciples.

Thank you both very much for your replys.
So the pointing in John 15;8 is - equally with Greek - towards the process of becoming His disciples.
Thanks.

Hello Stephen,
Stephen, I have a question for you. Is it possible to add William Norton's translation of Peshitta to dukhrana? As you know, Norton translated from Romans to 1 John. I can give you the books and informations if you like.
