I have a simple translation issue here. George M. Lamsa's translation of Matthew 27:47 of Jesus's last words reads "Eli, Eli, lemana, shebakthani" "My God, my God, for this reason I was spared!" He then footnotes the passage with "this was my destiny"
In the Peshitta text at Peshitta.org, the same passage reads "My God, my God, why was I spared?"
