To Shamasha: Assyrians and Chaldeas....how are things?

Shlama Akhan Rafael.

Thank you for your kind words. On paper the relationship between all the churches is bleak. In practice, things are more encouraging and complicated. Whenever humans are involved, right?

We all strive, and pray for unity among all the parts of the body of Christ. Unfortunately this has been an issue since the time of the Apostles or very shortly thereafter. All the players involved know what the ideal is, but cannot agree on the terms.

The ideal has never been a reality and may not be so until the coming of our Savior. And for that we all may be repremanded.

This is coming from someone who's great-grandfather was a Qasha in the COE, was later transferred to the Chaldean church in a town nearby by his bishop because their priest died. And his daughter, my grand-mother, attended the Ancient Church of the East side.

Oh. And I'm married to a Roman Catholic too, who's mother is a convert from the Baptist church. <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink1.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

Things on the ground, so to speak, are very often quite different than on paper. If you open the roman missal, right on the first page you'll notice a welcome to members of the COE to partake in communion.

Will communion in the sense sought after by Rome as you described ever be realized. No. But maybe someday a form of communion that more realistically preserves the historic reality of these traditions might be realized. One that does not pre-require the submission of either branch to the other. As Paul said we are different members of the same body and one is not over the other.

Shlama alokhun,

Go to about 2:15 into this video to see a former Chaldean Priest that came back to the Church of the East! This is in Australia.
