The Church of the East: a concise history
#1
Shlama Paul,

I have been doing some research on Eastern Christianity and the Church of the East and came across a book by Wilhelm Baum, Dietmar W. Winkler called "The Church of the East: A concise history". I came across this from a wikipedia article on the Church of the East and I have seen that some here on the forum have said that the wiki article is not entirely accurate. The book itself is out of print but there are still copies that can be purchased from select online vendors but at a price of over 100 dollars. I was wondering if you were familiar with this book and how you feel about the information presented in the book? Is this a good investment? If not are there other books you would recommend?

Peace and Blessings,
Donald

Hello Donald,

I have not read it, but I would say before you pay $100 for a book on the history of the CoE, first of all, if you have a look at the main page here on the left, you will see lots of different sections, theres the introduction, articles, tools etc. In the articles section there are many free books to download which will give you a good start in learning the history of the CoE.

One of the books by wigram is used by the CoE in one of its training schools (in Iraq I think).

Secondly, before you spend $100 on any book on the CoE, I would check this mans store <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lulu.com/atourpub">http://www.lulu.com/atourpub</a><!-- m -->

In which he offers rare or out of print books to do with the CoE at very gracious prices.

I bought some books at 30 or so pounds from him, if it were not for his store the only other way I could have got them would have been to pay around 180 pounds!
