Aramaic Writing
#1
In the aramic text in the bible I was curious to know if all of the really tiny symbols and shapes are important in the meaning of the text. I have seen aramaic text before but it did not have all the small shapes and symbols. I then got a copy of the aent and the shapes and symbols are above almost all of the text on every page. If anyone could explain what the purpose of the shapes and symbols are that would be great.

Read the Aramaic Primer Appendix in the AENT <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Shlama,

a concise presentation of those important vowels and three forms of script can also be found here:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ancientscripts.com/syriac.html">http://www.ancientscripts.com/syriac.html</a><!-- m -->

only an introduction, but helpful! if you are new to the language, do yourself a favor and learn at a handful of different scripts -- Serto, Estrangela, and Swadaya are helpful. not all helps are readily available in Estrangela script, so you really need to be familiar with the other prominent forms, if you plan on using the language often.

you can also do a wiki search if you'd like on Syriac or Aramaic - it can be helpful to newcomers.
