Dukhrana Stuff
#1
Shlama All:
Lars has been busy making some additions to the Peshitta lookup tool at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dukhrana.com">http://www.dukhrana.com</a><!-- m -->. He has added a Swedish translation for the benefit of the many Assyrians who have found religious and political asylum in Sweden. Soon, the Greek New Testament will be a part of the Peshitta lookup tool as well.

We've been working together to add the Crawford Codex Western Five as well, beginning with the four Minor Catholic Epistles of II Peter, II John, III John and Jude. My comparative transcription PDF's of these books are ready to download. Please feel free to check out the new additions.

1) There is a debate concerning the authorship of II John and III John. Was it John the evangelist, who wrote the Gospel of John, I John and the book of Revelation or was John the elder another Apostle?

2) Is the Crawford Codex indeed the long-lost Philoxenian Version, as John Gwynn asserts in his book Remnants of the Later Syriac Versions of the Bible
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.archive.org/details/remnantsoflaters00gwynrich">http://www.archive.org/details/remnants ... 00gwynrich</a><!-- m -->.

Enjoy!

Shlama Akhi Stephen,

That all sounds WONDERFUL. Let me save some others the suspense though--Gwynn to my mind did prove to me that the four minor Epistles in Crawford were Philoxenian. The Remnants book is a masterpiece--in my top 3 for best "Golden Age" Peshitta Scholarship works.

Shlama Khabiba:
Thank you for your personal endorsement. Indeed, I'm really enjoying Remnants.

Watch out for the plagiarism police, though. We have D.A.D. (Dave, Albion and Dooley) monitoring the internet for any infringements.....

Shlama All:
The Greek NT is up and running in the Peshitta look-up tool. Remember that the plain Greek text is Wescott-Hort (Alexandrian) and the Nestle-Aland (Byzantine/UBS) annotations are in red. Hopefully, this will make cross-referencing between the Peshitta text and the Greek New Testament easier and faster. This new addition should spawn a ton of comments and questions as differences and anomalies between the Peshitta text and the Greek text are found.

Shlama,
Stephen

Shlama akhi Stephen,

O frabjous day!! the work being done at <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dukhrana.com">www.dukhrana.com</a><!-- w --> is such an awesme blessing to the entire body - may all involved be richly blessed in return!

the new Greek option will be a great help to expedite the realization that the Aramaic is to be preferred over the Greek! i don't know how much time i've spent bouncing back and forth between Greek and Aramaic sites. it will be a wonderful help to have it all there in front of us!

Akhi Stephen, will you & Lars be adding the Majortiy Text & Textus Receptus too? It might be a good idea for Dukhrana to have them for variant studies. I see that Robinson has also created a Stephanus TR module with variants from Scrivener's edition: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://byztxt.com/download/index.html">http://byztxt.com/download/index.html</a><!-- m -->.

Shlama Khati Christina,

I can pretty easily add any GNT edition that is available at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://koti.24.fi/jusalak/GreekNT/NTTexts.htm">http://koti.24.fi/jusalak/GreekNT/NTTexts.htm</a><!-- m -->

Just let me know which ones you prefer :-)

Great stuff! <!-- s:biggrin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":biggrin:" title="Big Grin" /><!-- s:biggrin: --> Let's turn Dukhrana into a textual treasure chest, shall we?

Cool, from that website, add the latest R-P Majority Text (2005) and the Stephanus TR combined with Scrivener's (this should be useful for arguing against them KJV-only folks <!-- sConfusedatisfied: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/satisfied.gif" alt="Confusedatisfied:" title="Satisfied" /><!-- sConfusedatisfied: --> ).

If want, you can also add the official Greek Orthodox Church NT: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://kainh.homestead.com/English.html">http://kainh.homestead.com/English.html</a><!-- m -->

I've got Tischendorf (8th edition) & von Soden, PM me your email address if you wanna add them as well. I just wish we could get our hands on Hodges & Farstad's: The Greek New Testament According to the Majority Text, it seems that Thomas Nelson hasn't released in electronic format. There's a guy who compiled a new Majority Text which documents the differences between R-P & H-F, but all the files are pdf: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.walkinhiscommandments.com/pickering2.htm">http://www.walkinhiscommandments.com/pickering2.htm</a><!-- m -->.

Congratulations on your progress akhay Lars and Stephen,

These are really great additions!

I'm still hoping for even more, though. <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) --> The Arthur Voobus Collection will go online sometime.
I have a gut feeling that the British Museum and the Vatican Library have some real gems as well.
Do you suppose there's any way we can get a list of contents of this DVD-ROM....

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://syrcom.cua.edu/Hugoye/Vol8No1/HV8N1PRHeal2.html">http://syrcom.cua.edu/Hugoye/Vol8No1/HV8N1PRHeal2.html</a><!-- m -->

I would hate for anyone to spend their hard-earned money on lectionaries from the medieval period when they were looking for N. T. vellum/animal skin codices.

Notice this statement from the above webpage...." Pope Clement XI encouraged a number of successful missions to Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East to acquire manuscripts. Through the efforts of Elias Assemani, his cousin J. S. Assemani, and Gabriel Eva, some of the most significant of all surviving Syriac manuscripts were acquired in this period."

Shlama Akhi Larry:
From what I have understood so far, the Vatican only seems to release western Syriac manuscripts for viewing. I have yet to see one Eastern Peshitta manuscript made available by the Vatican.
