Paul -

On page 2, in verse 11, I believe you meant "Troas" where it says "Traos".

Also on page 2, in verse 14, you render "Ludia", whereas on page 6, in verse 40, rendering is "Lydia".

That's all I found, other than sweet Heavenly perfection!

Sometimes the browsers cache the old copy, try right-clicking the left hand side of the website and hitting "refresh" - that should do it!

Shlama Akhi Paul,

Well, it's about _____-in time! You couldn't have come back a few years sooner and saved me from my own work? It is because you stopped--among other reasons--that I started Mari. Now that I'm ready to release it, guess who's the Yochanan-come-lately??? Mari is YOUR FAULT!

Seriously, MAZEL TOV! I rejoice in your return, because for so many of us your work is the root of all of ours. And while I know it sounds impossible, my hope is that your work eventually will gain the acceptance in the COE that eluded Lamsa. Nothing may ever be official of course, but for your churches which are concerned with American outreach--like St. John's--there must be a greater need for some of the Peshitta in English and who better than a deacon to bring it about? I am sure Qasha Klutz is proud of you for getting back to this. While you are at it, send him my best regards when you see him again please.

Shlama Akhay,

Andrew - I'll be honest, the adversary had a hold over me the past few years. I can't tell you how or why, but suddenly it came and my fingers started typing and I can honestly say "I'm back." Perhaps the gentle prodding from various people over the last couple of years helped. We're probably gonna have to start up a collection so we can afford Christina's (undoubtedly) exorbitant motivational speaker fees.

As for MARI, Dave's translation, etc - I say the more the better. Perhaps one day we can form a super-committee that will bring about a more definitive work.

Onkelos and Yonathan were different Targums, and today we have a treasure in each because we see different ways a text can be interpreted. Rather than compete, they complete each other and ultimately they glorify the original text they fearfully approached.

That's how I view my interlinear, MARI, Lamsa, etc.

As for the CoE - I've actually been invited to speak about the topic on the radio station here in Chicago, and the priest who will be interviewing me is one of the recent doctoral graduates from the Vatican, who "outed" the conspiracy by the former bishop and his bosses in Rome. Go figure. I'll be giving a presentation at the Patriarchal cathedral as well.

Believe me when I tell you, in all my years attending the CoE, I have not heard ONE single sermon, not even a word has ever been mentioned that I know of about this topic. Perhaps people have the impression that this is something that's talked about or concentrated on within the CoE. I can assure you that it's NOT. It isn't a focus. It never really has been.

Let's pray that's about to change.

Shlama Akhi Paul,

Yes, of course, I could not agree more with you. The more the merrier. You remember well where we started before peshitta.org, way back to the Aramaic Bible Society, and those guys never saw you coming. It even seems forever since I was over at your house in January of 2003, so many things have happened, and yet the need for Peshitta has never, ever been greater than it is right now.

You and I have spoken many times about how the Peshitta is bigger than either of us. It is bigger than the Nazarenes, the COE, the Protestants and the Catholics, and yet we ALL have a stake in it and we ALL need its clarity in a dangerous world plagued by secular humanism and atheism.

I am totally content with Mari being of general interest to Christendom and particular interest to Nazarenes and other Jews. I am totally content also with the idea that Bauscher, Magierra, Lamsa and of course YOU play a key role in both the general and specific interests of our holy text. We must all add our voices to make the music as sweet as possible.

You know, in all these years you and I have known one another, I don't think I have ever thanked you for being patient with ME in the beginning too. You showed me a lot of this stuff before everyone came in, and of course Dean Dana let me know it was cool to be raised Jewish and love this text. The discovery of the Peshitta was almost (not quite for obvious reasons) like being saved a second time. First time I found Y'shua and the basics. Second time I found his main language, his sense of irony, poetic mastery, dry wit, etc., all the things that are only apparent in his native tongue. So please accept from me a hearty "Todah rabba!"

But I should not go on about myself like this. My main thrust was to say that I knew a little bit about what kept you away from translating. It's not like I knew nearly all, you just happen to have a friend of yours who has a steel trap for a memory and can re-stitch the small bits together okay. Your return to this sacred task Akhi is nothing short of the answer to long standing and persistent prayer. I speak not only for myself but for the HUNDREDS of people over the years who have waited with baited breath literally for you to resume. Mari's anticipation has nothing on what folks have wondered about you to me my friend.

And finally, let me comment on what you already know well. My task with the Peshitta is clear, to take it to my brethren. Your task is equally clear in terms of at least a dialogue with yours on the need for a proper translation. I think on your title, SHAMASHA, of course, to be in service/ministry, but also reminiscent at least of the SUN, and for me the SUN rises on your return. If YHWH is willing, I think what you will do will prove natural and even easy but we live in such remarkable times that, even for your people who preserved this text, their relationship with Peshitta could still change and deepen. After all, if our collective work becomes popular, how could that not also have an impact on the COE even as Lamsa did so long ago? The difference is, this time the impetus is coming from INSIDE, and maybe those Plan G machinations will lead to a righteous backlash that returns greater urgency to the text. Of course, none of this is new:

I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Then YHWH replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay...".

LOL, Shamasha Paul, don't be ridiculous! On a serious note, you're not alone, this has been a really bad year for me and my family too, and for practically everyone I know personally. There were 2 deaths, a serious illness (now cured praise YAH) and now a seriously ugly battle over inheritance, the evil one just kept dealing blow after blow (all in this year alone!). Peshitta.org has been a major haven for me to escape reality momentarily and find encouragement and some laughter to lift my spirit. I have a feeling that next year is gonna be a big one for us.

Akhi Paul, I really wanna thank you for giving me this opportunity, it has been my dream to one day work in ministry, to reconcile the children of Isaac and the children of Ishmael through Yeshua D'Mesheikha, as well as encourage the persecuted Church to be a strong and faithful witness to the darkness around them. Someday I would love to learn Hebrew, Aramaic & Arabic fluently (I just love the Semitic languages), MarYah will provide if it is His will. The power is in the Word and we have it! I have a feeling that perhaps MarYah is using you to give me a stepping stone, towards fulfilling His will for my life.

And concerning your Church: Once upon a time you took the original Gospel to the ends of the East. I know that because there are so few of you left today that it feels like you've been defeated and your past efforts have been destroyed. BUT always remember - you have lost and battle but you haven't lost the war. Your Church has done it before and they CAN do it again, it's not over until our Saviour & King literally sets foot on the Mount of Olives.

"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free".

We know the truth, we have the truth, now let's take it to the west, to the east and to the ends of the earth - AMEIN!

PS: I'll PM you my email address.

I know for sure that it is MarYah???s Will for your life, and for this Forum???s life, that you are already a part of it, and that you certainly remain so. Paul???s gesture reminds me of Esther???s finding favor in the eyes of the king. And I know why: Because the Favor of The King undoubtedly and radiantly shines from your betrothen face when you write. You???ve gained the attention of many here. Remain a broken vessel, as you???ve said before. Light when shone through a vase emits a beautiful and clear light. But ??????....

Light when shone through a vase that has been Put together, piece by broken piece, Glued by impenetrable epoxy, emits a hidden and dazzling spectrum of Light itself: the rainbow!

It is tov, yes tov, to see brethren dwelling together in unity here.

Amein.

Shlama akh Ryan,

Thank you very much for your confidence and faith in me, and of course for your gift which you sent me, I'll never forget your kind generosity. I don't work alone, I work with a team, and we are Peshitta.org are all a team and a family, who love MarYah, His Son, and His Holy Word.

I have great faith in akhan Paul and in his church, some changes may need to be made but the COE will rise from their ashes, and become a fiery flame for the Gospel, like they once were, I truly believe that.

Thank you, reading with pleasure but ... there is an error right in the first verse - everyone knows that Thimotheos' father was Greek, not some Aramean. Sorry, couldn't resist that comment .
