Question to Mr. Bauscher, about Psalm 23
#1
Hello,
I'm asking this question to Mr. Bauscher because I read somewhere in this forum that he is working in a translation of Psalms from Ambrosiano Codex, but any thoughts from any person is very welcome!
Lamsa's OT says "23:1 The Lord is my sepherd, I shall not want. 23:2 He makes me to rest in green pastures, he leads me besides still waters" (http://www.aramaicpeshitta.com/OTtools/ ... psalms.htm). And looking at CAL (http://cal1.cn.huc.edu/), we have:

???????? ???????????? ???????? ???? ???????? ?????? 23:1
23:2 ?????? ?????????? ???????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ??????????????

The translation for ???????????? is

1 to feed, to graze Com.
2 to tend flocks Com.
3 metaph.: to govern CPA.
4 to be tended Syr.

C
1 to tend Syr.

Dt
1 to heal, to care

but not "shepherd".

The translation for ?????????? is

1 meadow Syr.

not "green pastures".

I understand that CAL is based on Ambrosiano Codex. But I'm not sure about Lamsa sources.
My question is: could ???????????? and ?????????? be translated, by analogy, as "shepherd" and "green pastures"? If yes, analogy to what?
I'm specialy interested in a more detailed explanation for ???????????? since this is a verb (to feed, etc), not a noun (shepherd).
And, if possible, could you provide your own translation for this verses?

Thank you!

Shlama AKhi Phil,

Please excuse the Hebrew font in this interlinear. I need to change it for my final version,
but this has the right to left Peshitta word order as in the Codex Ambrosianus.
"Marga dwashna" is "pastures lush".

(not) ???? (& a thing) ???????? (will shepherd me) ???????????? (The Lord JAH) ???????? 023001
(to me) .???? (shall be lacking) ????????
(will make me lie) .???????????? (lush) ???????????? (pastures) ??????*?? (& upon) ?????? 023002
(He will lead me) .???????????? (restful) ????*???? (waters) ??????* (& by) ??????
(in the paths) ????????*???? (& He leads me) ???????????? (He brings back) ???????? (my soul) ???????? 023003
(your Name) ?????? (because of) ?????? (of truth) .??????????
(of shadows) ????????* (in the valleys) ??????*???? (I shall walk) ???????? (even if) ?????? 023004
(I will be afraid) ???????? (not) ???? (of death) .????????
(with me,my people) .?????? (you are) ???????? (because) ?????? (evil) ?????????? (of) ????
(comfort me) .???????????? (they) ???????? (& your staff) ???????????? (your rod) ????????
(tables) ????*?????? (in front of me) ???????? (you have prepared) ???????? 023005
(with oil) ?????????? (my head) ???????? (you have anointed) ?????????? (my enemies) .??????????????* (opposite) ??????????
(alive) .?????? (as if it were) ?????? (overflows) ???????? (& my cup) ????????
(pursue me) .???????????? (& your mercies) ??????????*?? (your kindness) ???????????? 023006
(in the house) ?????????? (that I may dwell) ?????????? (of my life) ??????*?? (the days) ??????*???? (all) ??????????
(of the days) .??????*?????? /#3#(all) ??????????/(the length) ?????????? (of The Lord JAH) ??????????

Blessings,
