statement from Ibas, bishop of Edessa
#1
Shlama Akhay,

At one of our own links at peshitta.org we have the testimony of Patriarch Mar Eshai Shimun, April 5th, 1957, that "the Peshitta is the text of the Church of the East which has come down from the Biblical times without any change or revision." http://www.peshitta.org/initial/peshitta.html
A similar testimony made 1,500 years earlier also exists. On page 124 of William Norton's introduction (in his 'Conclusion' chapter), I found this.....

{Quote} An additional testimony, not mentioned in the preceding pages, to the pure and unaltered state of the Peshito down to the middle of the fifth century, has lately come to my knowledge. It is the testimony of Ibas, bishop of Edessa. In a Syriac letter written to a Persian before the year A. D. 449, he said, --- "Those Scriptures which have been granted [to us] by God, have not suffered the least alteration." {End of quote}

...and the beauty is that the earliest manuscripts we have are from around his lifetime, so we see that even the modern printed versions are identical.
