The Best Aramaic NT Resource Returns...
#1
Shlama all--

I was browsing the bookstore link and was very pleasantly surprised to find that the New Covenant Aramaic Peshitta Text with Hebrew Translation has been saved from oblivion! 19 years after first blessing the world (the same year I became a believer in Y'shua, 1986), a second edition has emerged. I am beyond pleased and will probably buy it even though I have the "Red Book" and the improved hard cover versions also.

I notice from the blurb that there is a new introduction, but my question is this: Does anyone know if it is a new translation on the Hebrew side, or if it is just a reissue of the previous translation?

Also, there were a few very rare occasions where I noticed slight differences between the Aramaic there and that of the "Blue Book" (COE-swadaya version) and that of the Word docs here at peshitta.org. Obviously there are minor spelling variations between the 360 mss in the Peshitta family, but these were wholesale word substitutions, but nothing that changed the meaning of the text. I guess I am curious if the Aramaic side was also re-edited in light of those variants or not.

Anyone know?

I found the original out-of-print version at Amazon, but I can't find the new edition that you're talking about. Do you know where this can be ordered?

Yes John, as I mentioned originally, the book is available from the bookstore...which is http://www.aramaicbooks.com, or available from the bookstore link in the Links section.

Sorry if that was not clear.

Shlama Andrew,

Both the Aramaic text and the Hebrew translation are the same as the original printing from 1986. The publisher claims to have "corrected" the text and they did, in fact replace the intro with a new one.

I have yet to find the 'corrections' but it could be that there were typos in the original.

be well,

Dean
