The Khabouris Ancient Manuscript Institute

The Khabouris manuscript is an Aramaic New Testament Codex carbon dated at 1000 CE and, according to its imprimatur from the Bishop of the Church of Nineveh, it is a direct copy of a second century text. It is truly a work of beauty, with sacred olive wood covers and five hundred plus pages on sheepskin, written in one well practiced scribe's hand. It is thought to be the oldest complete Aramaic New Testament Manuscript in existence. The manuscript is being digitally scanned and translated as part of the Khabouris Ancient Manuscript Institute, a project of the International Orthodox Christian Institute and the ICCI. Dr. Crawford is one of the primary scholars participating in the project.

Does anyone know how the Khaboris Manuscript may differ from the Mortimer and McCawley Manuscript used by Lamsa for his New Testament Peshitta translation?

OK, this might be a bit off topic and I'm not trying to start an argument, but that photo disturbs me abit...especially if what the individuals are holding is not a replica....I have to say...should they be touching the pages in this manner with their bare hands?

I grew up in a Church that doesn't allow even printed copies of the Torah and Peshitta to be handled with your bare hands. Maybe I'm living in the dark ages, but it still disturbed me somewhat to see the way they are touching this and just had to say something.

It would disturb you even more to discover how this precious manuscript, the same age as the Aleppo Codex of the Tanakh, wound up in these people's hands to begin with.

I don't know who the people are, but I shudder at the thought considering the way you put it.
