1 Thessalonians 2:2
#1
October 27, 2004

Near the end of 1 Thessalonians 2:2 my Greek interlinear reads "good news of GOD", but both Murdock and Lamsa have "gospel of the MESSIAH". I wonder if there is a Greek manuscript variant of this verse that has "Christ" instead of "God", or is the Peshitta unique in this wording. Clearly, "gospel of the Messiah" makes more sense.

I have the Logos version of NA27, but I can't find any reference to an alternate reading in this verse.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I would like to learn how to research these variants.

Shlama Otto,

Apparently no Greek variants exist in that place. Your Greek Testament has variants at the bottom of the page with verse numbers before the set of variants for that verse (assuming the 27th edition is like the 26th). There is also a < like mark in the text before the word that has a variant reading at the foot of the page.
