Letter Accuracy of Peshittas compared to Torahs
#1
The BHS edition of the Torah has 304,871 letters.
The Koren Edition of The Torah has 304,805 letters.

BHS has 66 letters more than Koren; 66/304,805= 0.0217 %.
This is 99.9784% letter # agreement !

Discounting differences in canons and Pericope De Adultera,Eastern & Western Peshittas have totals 22 letters apart ! (The Western is 1905 Syriac NT.)
22/424,239= 0.005 %
99.995 % letter # agreement !

This reveals accuracy of the two ancient Peshitta NT editions (5th century) comparable to or better than The two famous (Eastern-Western) Massoretic Hebrew Torah editions.

The word number agreement for each version pair is the same.

Letter # is not a fail safe method of measurement, but I'll wager it is well nigh the best single approximation of likeness for two editions of the scriptures covering the same books in the same language.

Try to find this 99.995% agreement among any two editions of The Greek NT. That is one letter # difference for every 20,000 letters !

The Torahs have one letter # difference per 5000 letters !

People need to know the reality.
Dave B., You are doing a great job!!! Very actual topic.
It is important if You supply us with the information about Targum Onqelos!

Alas, Ivan,

If only I had known that the Word docs of the Peshitta are
Western texts, not Eastern ! Now we need to find an Eastern text for an electronic edition so we can do the
comparisons. Perhaps sooner than we think.

Shlama,

Dave
