Amazing picture.

I heard it was customary that Priests would not actually touch the Peshitta but in reverence would hold it with their garments.

This custom is also practiced in the synagogue with the Torah in a slightly different way. The Torah scroll is paraded before the Torah reading and one will reach out and touch the scroll as it passes his way with the tzitzit (hem) of his talit and then kiss the
tzitzit out of reverence for the WORD of Alaha (Elohim).
