Shlama Akhay,

This is an interesting quote from a book on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The title of the book is 'The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation; Translated and with Commentary'
by Michael Wise, Martin Abegg, Jr., and Edward Cook.
This particular chapter is entitled 'Words of Levi.'

The author is comparing Luke 2:32 & 34 with Manuscript #541 of Qumran Cave 4 (Fragment 9, Column 1).
The bracketed areas are where wear, deterioration and other problems have occurred. Sometimes educated guesses that match Biblical texts, surrounding context, etc. are made. Here's the quote from the book....

Quote:A large fragment of 4Q541 describes a priest who is to appear in the future, whose religious teaching brings light to his generation, but who also arouses fierce opposition. Like Jesus, he is a "light for revelation" but also a "sign to be spoken against" (Luke 2:32,34).

Frag. 9 Col. 1 [...]his wisdom. And he shall make atonement for all those of his generation, and he shall be sent to all the children of his people. His command is like the command of Heaven, and his teaching is like the will of God. The Sun everlasting will shine and its fire will give warmth to all the ends of the earth. It will shine on darkness; then will darkness vanish from the earth, and mist from the land.
They will speak many words against him, and many [falsehood]s; they will concoct lies and speak all kinds of slander against him. His generation is evil and perverse; [...]will be; his term of office will be marked by lies and violence [and] the people will go astray in his days and be confounded.
