Did High Priest Caiaphas violate the law?
#5
The Talmud requires the High Priest to rent his garments (never to be mended again) at hearing the actual name of God "according to the letters" uttered by an unauthorized source. Jesus did not stop at confirming that he was the Messiah... that in itself is not a capital offense. He went on to quote Psalms 110:1 involving the Tetragrammaton. This is what produced the reaction of the High Priest and Sanhedrin. They readily agreed that Jesus was worthy of death and said so. I am certain Jesus did not say "Power" when quoting Psalms 110:1 and the prophet Daniel. "Power" itself is a substitution (like LORD) for the name of God. If you want to know the Talmud reference I can quickly look it up.
