Luke 24:5 'the living'
#2
Distazo,

Nice find!

I have a copy of "The Patristic Gospels" which is a version of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, culled from the Church Fathers qoutes from the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and checked with numerous ancient language witnesses of the Gospels text in from the 2nd-3rd centuries, and here is how it reads for that verse "Why seek ye the Living One, among the dead?"

That is the way that The New American Standard Bible reads as well.

I don't see why it can't be thus in The Peshitta as well, since "the Living" is in the singular and "the dead" is in the plural.

Dave Bauscher renders it this way. "Why are you seeking The Life among the dead?"

Jesus does call Hiself The Life, so perhaps this is what was said by the Angel. Not sure. But it is in the singular while "the dead" is in the plural.

Shlama,
Chuck
