Matthew 11:12
#2
Shlama Akhi,

The Aramaic for "violent" is "Qtyran"; you omitted the Qop.

12
(The Baptizer) andmem(but) Nyd(of Yokhanan) Nnxwy(the days) ymwy(from) Nm
(of Heaven) aymsd(the Kingdom) atwklm(this hour) ashl(& until) amdew
(it) hl(are seizing) Nypjxm(& the violent) anryjqw(is led) arbdtm(by force) aryjqb

12. "From the days of Yohannan The Baptizer until this hour, the Kingdom of Heaven is led by force, and the violent are seizing it."

Probably the best translation of this verse you'll ever see. <!-- s:biggrin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":biggrin:" title="Big Grin" /><!-- s:biggrin: -->

Seriously, its as good as any other I have seen, I think. "Methdavra" with b + a noun means essentially, "to be led", or in conjunction with aryjq - "Qtyra" -"force", as here = "forced". "MeKhtap" is, "to seize" or "to take by force", or "to plunder".

What causes the difficulty is not the translation so much as the idea of the Kingdom of Heaven being taken over and controlled by the most violent of men (or good versus evil angels?).

Blessings,

Dave
