Perhaps a gesture towards healing
#1
Hello. It has been years since I have contributed to the forum. As I realize the forum is geared toward Aramaic primacy, I could not help but be agitated by western Christianity's relative silence, regarding the persecution of my fellow brothers and sisters in the faith.

A ray of hope came from an unexpected source that goes a long way to heal old wounds. Not only is this a promising step between east and west but between Orthodoxy and Evangelicalism. All of this with Israel extending what may be an olive branch of sorts.

Ha-aretz and other sources reported the story as well as Israel Ha-Yom. The latter was cited by the website biblesforisrael.com, which is the source for the Messianic Bible Project.

It touched me deeply as I read the opening statement from Dt 26:

"Then you shall declare before the LORD your God: ?My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous.?? (Deuteronomy 26:5)

I heard in my heart the cry of one seed and one family. Moreover in the article, Israel allowed for the distinct nationaility of Aramean's, who spoke the Aramaic language. How important then is the Aramaic language and its preservation in all the various dialects?

Just had to give kudos to Paul and those like him, including those Assyrians I marched with in protest of IS(IL) in Ft Worth Texas recently.

Grace be multiplied and hear the voice of the faithful in this time of persecution oh Lord.

This is tremendous news. It blows my mind how Israel has made this declaration. For all Christians with Israeli citizenship whether of Jewish or Aramean lineage, truly there are blood and tribal ties. The nefesh b'nefesh (soul within soul) Genesis 44:30 is the intimate davakhut (cleaving) between brother and brother and father and son. Judah is to be praised for standing tall and proud with the Aramean Israelis in their midst. I'm getting goose-pimples even on my duck-bumps.

Just wait till Lars Lindgren hears about this.

What does this mean for The Assyrian Church, with all the various eastern branches, who are in exile?

How wonderful to not be called by a name you do not call yourself (Arab). Especially when you don't speak, read, write or even understand Arabic.

Arabs are from Arabia. The Lebanese are Phoenicians. The Syrians are Arameans. The Iraqis are Mesopotamians (Babylonians, Assyrians and Arameans). The Egyptians are descendants of the ancient Egyptians. The Jordanians are Nabateans.

None of these nations are "Arab", despite the language they might speak officially. This is due to the Arab/Islamic invasion of the 7th century.

How wonderful that Israel has done something like this, which not even Iraq or Syria has done (and they have the most Arameans)
