New Book: Tanakh plus Peshitta combined!!
#1
<!-- s:biggrin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":biggrin:" title="Big Grin" /><!-- s:biggrin: --> I have made a new edition of the Hebrew Tanakh plus the Aramaic Peshitta available as a single volume on Lulu. As this is not available anywhere else in the world as far as I know, it is at least worth a look. <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->
There is a black and white version, as well as a color version. Certain features of the text are color highlighted, and although this is unconventional, I think it makes it very enjoyable and pleasant to read. The Peshitta is in square Hebrew letters, and includes vowel points. This brings a harmony to both the Old and New Testaments.
You can view the two versions at:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lulu.com/content/1604362">http://www.lulu.com/content/1604362</a><!-- m -->
and
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lulu.com/content/1616239">http://www.lulu.com/content/1616239</a><!-- m -->
The book is available either as a download or in printed format.
If anyone likes the general idea but wants changes to certain specific things, I may be willing to create you a specific version, depending on what is involved. My email address is in the Preview pages of the book on Lulu.

Great work, Ewan!

What source did you use for the NT?

Shlama Ewan,

Is this an *Interlinear Translation* with Hebrew/Aramaic on one line, and English on another?

Paul has already asked what source you used in your New Testament, I'd like to ask what Tanakh source did you use?

Thanks for your time.

Peace, Albion

Shlama Ewan,

Never mind...........I found what I asked about the Tanakh;

"Hebrew text is that of the Leningrad Codex" .

But I still would like to know is it an Interlinear?

Thanks, Albion

The source for the NT comes from my earlier work on getting the Aramaic Peshitta in Hebrew letters with vowels as a database in BibleWorks, which was mentioned some time ago on this forum. The source of that text was from a web archive from <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.peshitta.org">http://www.peshitta.org</a><!-- w -->, so it is a reliable text!
You can read a bit more about getting the Aramaic Peshitta text into BibleWorks at:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://bibleworks.oldinthenew.org/2007_07_01_archive.html">http://bibleworks.oldinthenew.org/2007_ ... chive.html</a><!-- m -->
This book is NOT an interlinear - the text is only in Hebrew and Aramaic, and you will need to be comfortable reading those languages in 'Hebrew' square letters in order to enjoy the book. If there is enough demand, I might produce an interlinear of the Peshitta in a similar format. However, if you want an interlinear, you should at least look at Rev. David Bauscher's work, which is available on Lulu, and which has been discussed in this forum. I have all his books, and I can recommend them. <!-- sConfusedatisfied: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/satisfied.gif" alt="Confusedatisfied:" title="Satisfied" /><!-- sConfusedatisfied: -->
If you like the format of my book but you ONLY want the Peshitta, I could make a version of that available on Lulu, if there is a demand. It is nice to have the Peshitta available as a printed book in 'Hebrew' square letters with vowels, because generally people are more familiar with that script.
Let me know what you would like to see in book or download form on Lulu, and I will see what I can do.

I have made these books slightly cheaper now, and also added Rafe throughout the Peshitta - this is the short horizontal stroke that goes above the 'begadkepat' letters when they have a soft breathing.

<!-- s:biggrin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":biggrin:" title="Big Grin" /><!-- s:biggrin: --> There is also a version of the Peshitta ONLY - not with the Tanakh. See
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lulu.com/content/1709830">http://www.lulu.com/content/1709830</a><!-- m -->
for the preview.

This book is ideal for people who want to read the New Testament in the original Aramaic (Syriac), but who do not know the Estrangela or Serta scripts, and who are more familiar with the Hebrew characters.

This should be useful. I certainly appreciate the standard right to left/ "back to front" printing. I meant to also mention that the price on these volumes is fantastic! I would expect to pay over $100 just for the black and white Tanakh/NT combination from a traditional publishing company or bible soc. And thanks for offering these as downloads.

Shlama Akhi Ewan,

I just downloaded the color version of your book. I think it's fantastic! I love the Ashuri script font you used with the vowel points and spirantization (Ruchaka) marks in The Peshitta. I also love the Kethiv & Qere readings in The Tanak. It is great to see the entire Bible in the essential original text and something close to the original script. A beautiful work!

I will soon order a printed edition. Many thanks and congratulations to you are in order.

The text you use for The Peshitta seems to be the same I used for my interlinear, which is the critical Peshitta
in The so called 1905 Peshitta NT, also found in The Syriac Bible of United Bible Society, 1979, with the 27 book canon and the Western Peshitta text type. Personally, I believe this is the original Aramaic text, so I am very happy you used it. Others will take issue with that; so be it. Regardless, you have performed a very valuable service to the world and made a very valuable contribution to Bible scholarship, as has Stephen Silver in his Eastern Khabouris ms. Peshitta transcription.

So far, there are 3 Peshitta translations and 2 Peshitta transcriptions originating from Peshitta.org forum members here. Not a bad record! Not bad at all, if I say so myself!

I think Paul Younan deserves credit for his inspiration, peerless knowledge of The Peshitta text & history, of Aramaic, and his spirit of excellence in bringing most of this about.

Tawdi Ewan, w'nebrakak Marya (Thank you & The LORD bless you),
