Interlinear Files with Sound! (vote) - Paul Younan - 06-16-2004

Shlama Akhay,

Here is a sample of Yukhanan chapter 1, I've included sound clips for the first page only. Simply click on the verse number, and you should be able to hear the sound.

What do you think? Would it be worthwhile to do for all the chapters? (hopefully someone with a better voice than I will step up and volunteer!)

This is great! - Andrew Gabriel Roth - 06-16-2004

Akhi Paul, what a wonderful idea and a powerful teaching tool! By all means, if it is not inconvenient, you should try it for all the Gospels. It is a great way for newcomers to very quickly get a feel for Aramaic pronunciation.

As for someone with a better voice doing it, I don't know about that. You sound terrific, and of course I doubt if others (excepting perhaps Akhan Dean) could give the Aramaic the proper accent. We need a native Aramaic speaker to do this gig--COE style. The only person I have ever heard who sounds better than you is your priest --WOW--talk about pure Aramaic!--and I have a feeling he is kind of busy. So who else other than you?

It sounds good habr, and your voice is ok, I would love to help, but it would have to be in the Western accent.

On my website I've gotten many requests to record the entire Peshitta, but unfortunately I haven't had the time, with all the projects underway on Beith Souryoye Morounoye.
But this project would be worth doing, so if you want I can try to record some, but like I said it would be in the Western accent.

My vote is yes! - Keith - 06-16-2004

Pretty awesome Paul. I have voted yes but with some reservations. I hope this won't take you away from translating and more importantly it would probably be best if a native Aramaic speaker did the reading not a Southern gringo like me who might learn to speak the language.

Is there anyone up there in the two churches you and I went to who might volunteer to do this? I kind of waxed nostalgic there while listening to you speak, remembering the service we attended with you.

My vote however is a whole hearted yes!

Keith

Andrew,

I just read your post. I agree that the speaker should be native.

Hi Paul:
I really like the idea. Just listening to the sound of the Gospel in Aramaic is a wonderful experience. <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Akhi Paul,

YOU SOUND GREAT MAN!

It came out better than I thought. I LOVE it !

Your voice is perfect, but it would take so much time that I wonder what the priority should be? Recording or Translating?

Maybe you should post another poll?

I wish I had the pronunciation down or I'd volunteer!

-Dean

- Paul Younan - 06-16-2004

Thanks, guys.

I'll definitely put priority on the translation. If I could only find someone willing to do the audio tracks, we could get both done at the same time.

Akhi Paul,

An excellent project! I???ve been waiting for sound for years, so, if you have the time, by all means proceed.

Akhy Abudar,

Should akhi Paul prefer to stick with the eastern pronunciation for his interlinear, I would be very interested in adding sound to my western vowelled Peshitta on Beth Sapra. If you have any interest in such a joint project, let me know.

That sounds like a good idea, I could start with the book of Matay. But given my other commitments, the recordings will be produced at a slow rate.

poosh bashlomo,
keefa-moroon
P.S. One thing I'll be recording them according to Maronite pronunciations, so that means no "TH", "DH", "V", or "P" sounds. But if you really want I can try to record them with the above mentionned sounds.

Shlomo akh keefa-moroon,

That???s great! You can send me an e-mail at my public address at:

Excelent idea, Akhi Paul! - Vsanzcm - 06-19-2004

Shlama Akhi Paul:
I'm very happy to hear Aramaic as it sounds! I have problems specially with some "endings" (I have learned -or better, I'm learning- Aramaic by my self!!!) which I didn't know how to pronounce, so this is perfect for me... I have the entire Hebrew Tanakh in 2 Cds and I love to hear it sometimes. This is an enormous job for you but I encourage you to do it.
Good bless you!

Ab. Valentin

- Ivan Pavlovich Ostapyuk - 06-26-2004

This is exciting!!! I listened to the speaking, and it is a thrill. I do vote "Yes". It preserves the Aramaic pronunciation in the best way.
Paul, this is the big progress and triumph of the Kingdom of God. Go ahead and God bless You, akhi.
Ivan.

Peace with you, I realise that this post is 5 yeas old, do you CoE ever sing the scriptures? I don't mean in the form of a song or composition, I mean just the continuous narrative of the of scripture?

I've never heard a more beautiful song than the bereavement of Adam, do you ever just read the scriptures in such a melody?

Are you still doing this by the way?

Sami
