Jealous or Zealous - ograabe - 04-14-2004 April 14, 2004 An Aramaic word that is usually translated as "jealous" is translated as "zealous" by Lamsa. See for example Deuteronomy 5:9, Romans 11:11, and Romans 11:14. This seems an important difference in meaning. I would appreciate it if someone can check out that word and its possible definitions. Thanks... Otto Re: - Larry Kelsey - 04-15-2004 Shlama Akhi Otto, Under 'tan' (Teith-Nun) in the Compendious Syriac Dictionary, I have- to envy, be jealous, to be moved or burn with jealousy, zeal, zealous desire, emulation, indignation with b . My personal preference in the verses you mentioned, considering context, would be 'jealous'. Maybe akhan Paul feels differently, though, and could educate us both on this. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s --> Shlama w'Burkate, Larry Kelsey |
