1st John 2:23 - Larry Kelsey - 12-01-2003

Shlama l'Kulkhon (Peace to y'all <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile --> ),

If anybody is in doubt about the Greek text of 1st John being inferior, I'll throw some more light on the subject.
Compare these....

1Jo 2:23 Everyone denying the Son neither has the Father. (Analytical-Literal Translation) **** Notice that this translation from the Greek omits the second half of the verse. The Greek editions that do have the second half include Griesbach, Lachmann, Tischendorf, Tregelles, Alford, Wordsworth.

1Jo 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also. (1901 American Standard Version)

Everyone denying the Son does not have the Father. The one confessing the Son also has the Father. (LITV-Literal Translation of the Holy Bible)

23 And he that denieth the Son, also believeth not the Father. He that confesseth the Son, confesseth also the Father. (Murdock)

Whoever denies the Son, the same does not believe in the Father; but whoever acknowledges the Son, acknowledges the Father also. (Lamsa)

and he who denieth the Son, disbelieveth also the Father. Whoso confesseth the Son, the Father also confesseth. (Etheridge)

Zorba got a little carried away with the 'hath' and 'hath not' motif. <!-- sRolleyes --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif" alt="Rolleyes" title="Roll Eyes" /><!-- sRolleyes -->
