What is Peshitta - TruthFinder - 10-19-2014
When one refers to the "Peshitta" is this the New Testament, the Old Testament, or the Old and New Testament?

Both traditionally and conventionally speaking, the "Peshitta" refers to both the New and Old Testaments in the Syriac tradition that rose to prominence ultimately by the 5th century.
Some people refer to the Peshitta Old Testament as "The Peshitta Tanakh" and the Peshitta New Testament as "The Aramaic New Testament" in some contexts, but these are more recent developments and are not widely accepted.

I like to call them The Aramaic Holy Scriptures, or, The Aramaic Holy Bible. Both the Old and New Testaments were given to the Aramaic speaking People, and they have read them in their Churches since the 1st century when they were established by the Apostles.
These ancient Holy Scriptures in Aramaic were later (9th century) referred to as "The Peshitta" (Straight, True), to distinguish them from other versions in the Aramaic language which were not, that were produced in later centuries by the Syrian Orthodox and Jacobite sects.

The Eastern Peshitta is the oldest of the Aramaic versions and here are other versions of the New Testament in Aramaic:
The Western Peshitta (AKA Peshitto)
The Sinaitic Palimpsest (AKA Old Syriac "S")
The Curetonian Gospels (AKA Old Syriac "C")
The Harklean Version
Christian Palestinian Aramaic versions

There are a few other revisions/versions of The Aramaic Holy Scriptures, the original Peshitta (Straight/True) Text, laying around out there.
