Published Eastern Peshitta Texts? - ScorpioSniper2 - 12-02-2013

I was wondering if there are any published Peshitta New Testaments that do not have the Western readings or anything. I can't seem to find any.

Check out the "Peshitta NT and Psalms PDF" link under "Tools." That's the complete printed text.

Dylan, this is an Eastern Peshitta in print, though from this site it says it's back-ordered.

Dylan...and others who may be interested...I may have found a printed version of what Shamasha Paul has up here at Peshitta.org, in the "tools" section...looks like it might be the same text, but, in printed form...and may be an Eastern Peshitta text looks like, at first glance.

Shamasha, could you verify this please.

Just click on preview at the bottom of each picture of the front of the book, and go through the pages to see the text.

The price is not too high.

New Testament:

They also have the Old Testament in print, but it says it is translated from the Hebrew, and is not the Peshitta version itself, as found in the Manuscripts, which are a much older translation of the Hebrew text as it was before the Masoretic revision.

Edit: Correction! See Shamasha Paul Younan's reply below. It is both the Peshitta version & the Hebrew version of the OT. Which is great for comparison of the text of the two.

Old Testament:

And...

I think this may be the Eastern Peshitta text as well...in both the Ancient Estrangela script, and the modern Assyrian script. Will need to check further on the text. click on preview, when you click on the links below.

Is this the Eastern text, Shamasha Paul?

It's hard to tell, because the preview is of the Book of Revelation <!-- s:biggrin: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/biggrin.gif" alt=":biggrin:" title="Big Grin" /><!-- s:biggrin: -->

But yes, it is the classical Aramaic tongue, although oddly enough they used the "Western" vowel markings along with the modern "Eastern" script.

The New Testament is both the Classical Aramaic and the Neo-Aramaic side-by-side, and it appears to be the eastern text. (with the eastern vowel markings, yay!)

The Old Testament is also both the Classical Aramaic and the Neo-Aramaic side-by-side. The Classical Aramaic represents the Peshitta version. The Neo-Aramaic was a fresh translation by the Presbyterian Church from the Hebrew Masoretic text. Also has the eastern vowel markings.

Ha!...I didn't check the text, just went off the description. So, that might mean that the other books could be of the Western version as well. Thus, Peshitto, not Peshitta.

Thanks,
Chuck

Sounds like this is a good one to have then. Good for Scripture studies and to help learn more of the written language, in both scripts.

Thanks,
Chuck

The Lulu links you posted are very interesting, Chuck. Thanks to both you and Paul!

That one is Neo-Aramaic (Assyrian "Koine").
