Question about "Cognate" letters - Burning one - 08-10-2012

Shlama,

i know that in some cognate words between Hebrew and Aramaic, we see changes of certain letters.

i'm looking for any known instances where a SHIN from Hebrew becomes a ZAYIN in Aramaic. i can't think of any myself at the moment...

i know it's kinda lazy on my part just askin', but i'm really strapped for time , so it would be awesome if someone here who's blessed with the knowledge knows any off the top of their head!

thanks in advance!

I found one (but it's really cheating ):
Ashdod reads as Azotus in Aramaic according to the Greek transliteration (See Azotus on Dukhrana Lexicon).

Beyond that, I haven't heard of such things.

Shlama akhi,

yeah, that's cheating! lol

one i'm wondering about is SHAQAPH in Hebrew = "hang," while ZAQAPH in Aramaic = "hang / crucify."

[EDIT] never mind - just realized ZAQAPH is in Hebrew, as well. so no true cognate, i guess [EDIT]

i'm trying to find any repeated instances of such cognate terms with like-morphing letters.

the above interested me because the noun version of the Hebrew SHAQAPH is MASHQOPH, meaning "lintel," - the place where the blood of the lamb was to be applied at the first Passover. the link between the Hebrew for "lintel" and the Aramaic for "crucify" struck me as profound for obvious reasons.
