Re: Hymns lyrics - Paul Younan - 05-11-2011

Greg, that YouTube clip has been constantly rewound and played on my cell. Thanks alot Robert.

Re: Hymns lyrics - borota - 05-11-2011

Paul, Could we have this song in transcribed into Aramaic with vowel signs, please?
I want this to be my next piece of Aramaic poetry learnt, once I fully mastered Awoon Dwashmaya.
Or is this found in some hymn book that can be purchased?

Re: Hymns lyrics - Paul Younan - 05-11-2011

Greg, not sure if I have a copy of the hymnal at home. If I do have one in the library I could scan that in and transliterate for those who want to sing.

If not I'll be a couple of weeks, I won't be at St Johns this weekend due to a knee injury. I could copy the pages when there next.

Unless Robert has a copy Malka d'Malkeh and can post it?

BTW I'm still playing it over and over again. Mar Odisho has one of those hauntingly beautiful voices you don't ever get tired of.

Re: Hymns lyrics - borota - 05-11-2011

Guess what I have had playing as I was reading your post? :-)
RealPlayer let's you import Flash video into it's own library and it rewinds itself.

Are those hymnals available for sale? Maybe I could get one from St. Andrews.

Re: Hymns lyrics - Paul Younan - 05-11-2011

Not sure if this one would be as it's not a weekly hymn. I'll have to check.

Re: Hymns lyrics - Phil - 05-12-2011

Here is another video with a beautiful song by Mar Odisho:

That is beautiful. Thanks for posting. "Tkhara" is the word for "Remembrance" (the Hebrew word for remember is "Zakhar", as in the root of the name of Zechariah.). The word "Syam" is "laying on", or to "touch". "Eeda" is the word for "hand". The two words combined, "Syam-Eeda" means "laying on of hands", or of course the technical term is ordination.

"Remembrance of the Ordination" is the title...

Robert, how about Mar Gewargis chanting Chuck's favourite hymn in China? How's that for wild? Can't believe that Pagoda church is still in pretty good shape...

Re: Hymns lyrics - Robert Khnanisho - 05-12-2011

I know Shamasha, it's such a beautiful moment and makes me think back to the days when we used to have up to 200 bishops in China alone.

What a fitting hymn to be singing.

So much work that our bishops have done and are doing goes unnoticed by us.

I created a new thread in the Church of the East section of the forum titled Hymns, I've posted a few up.
