Hymns lyrics - Thirdwoe - 04-28-2011
I have recently discovered some wonderful Hymns of the Church of the East on CD, but there is no lyrics with it. I was hoping some here could get me the lyrics to them or show me where to get them (In English) as I do not read that good in Aramaic. But if not, I could maybe try to translated them using Brother Silvers site tool. Please help us if you can.

Do you know if the versions are in modern Aramaic, or in ancient Aramaic?

(*) - rather than the more common Aramaic word for "Rock" ("Keepa"), the ancient hymnist employed the less common "Shua", as a possible wordplay with "Yeshua" (Jesus).

Yes Brother Paul, it is the same one you pointed to, by your friend...it is fantastic, haunting, and beautiful. I would love to be able to know what is being sung. If you can do this it would be a blessing. Thank you.

Also, if you know of any recordings on CD or download, of a full Liturgy of The Church of The East (in English) or if not, with English translations, so I can follow it.
I am recently very interested in learning about these things, since I attended my very 1st Orthodox Church Of Antioch
service, this Pascha.

Thanks again for your help Brother Paul...
I have just learned today that the very 1st English Liturgy of the Assyrian Church of the East was given on Feb 13th 2011 in San Jose, Ca. About 35 min from my house in Santa Cruz, Ca. And your friend Genard Lazar, the man who is singing on this CD was the the one who led the service that day. And they said that this will be the custom every 2nd Sunday of each month at that Parish. I plan to attend next month, God willing.
Do you know where I can find an English recording of a full Liturgy? I have found a printed version, so I can get aquainted with it better. Are they all the same?

Hi Chuck. That's great news. I know Qasha Genard has done a great amount of work in putting together that English service. We do have a printe version we use on our parish here but I'm not sure if Qasha Genard is basing the service on that one. I'll call him to verify. If it is I can send you a copy.
BTW, I'll be flying out to San Jose sometime in the near future to meet with Qasha Genard and his grace Mar Awa, to kick off some projects we will be undertaking for the church. I love seeing that part of the country.

Hi Chuck. Yes, he will be here in the states for a while and is serving at that parish. Originally he was a Qasha in Australia.

Wonderful, I plan to attend and experiance my 1st Church of The East Liturgy (in English) next Sunday at his Parish. I'm exited. Any advice for me Brother...? I don't want to distract or do something that might offend.
Also, is this the exact form of the Liturgy that will be spoken there?

Hi Chuck. You'll feel right at home, not much different from a typical Catholic or Anglican service when spoken in English. You have very little chance of feeling out of place.
Yes, the liturgy should be pretty much the same as the version in the link.
One bit of advice is that Assyrians typically dress very formally at service. Short of a tux you cant be overdressed in a typical COE parish
Another note is that females are asked to wear a thin scarf or hat during the service, so as to lightly cover their hair. If one is not brought, there normally is a cabinet or drawer in the hallway with extra scarves. Young girls are not required to cover their hair. And of course as with most churches dresses should be modest, ushers have been known to ask people who show too much skin to leave.
All baptized Christians are asked to approach and receive the communion. All others are requested to leave at a certain point right before the middle of the liturgy, before the elements of bread and wine are consecrated.
I hope you enjoy your service there. Qasha Genard has a great liturgical voice and his English sermons are quite a treat.

As to partaking of the Lord's Body, does it matter if you were not Baptized in a COE service, or are in the membership of the CEO?

Hi Chuck. It does not matter by whom you were baptized, or if you are a member of the COE. All baptized Christians may participate in the service fully. I know that a lot of the Apostolic churches have varying degrees of rules surrounding this topic. The COE has traditionally been open to all of them with only the baptism requirement.
People come to visit at times, take communion and leave and we never see them again. Some are traveling. Some curious. Some come back again. We don't ask. <!-- s
