Help with idiom - Rob Vanhoff - 09-08-2003 Shlama Akhay, Can anyone shed some light on the Aramaic idiom 0xwr Qpn and variants such as Xwrb Qpm :?: It seems to mean something like 'to excuse' (cf. Compendious), but I'd like to understand it more literally - 'to bring forth breath'? Thanks in advance, Rob - Paul Younan - 09-09-2003 Shlama Akhi, See: http://www.peshitta.org/forums/forumid6/380.html ..where this idiom is used by Meshikha himself. (the Qpn root is in the imperfect inflection here.) - Rob Vanhoff - 09-09-2003 Thanks, Akhi Paul. Nice verses (Luke 12:11-12)! So, 0xwr Nwqpt in this instance is a 2nd person plural imperfect Aphel, correct? 'cause (your) breath to go out'? 0ml4w Fwby= Bwr |
