Former Parthic empire & Alma Ata - distazo - 01-24-2010

Hi,

Just a few know about the Parthian empire, which kept the Roman empire behind the Eufrate river.

The Parthians had Aramaic coins.

Currently, kazachstan, is (more or less) the former territory of Parthia (right?)

Their capital is called: "Alma Ata" In Aramaic this would mean: "Eternal sign." (Or would it mean: eternity/world has come?)

Their own explanation is that it is based on some 'almaty' word but this looks more russian than Aramaic <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Is this reasonable to say: "Alma Ata, historically is derived from aramaic?"
