Question from Acts 8:33 - ograabe - 05-04-2009

May 4, 2009

In Acts 8:33 there is the phrase:09t4n wnm hrdw
---------------------------------declare it-- who will-- and his generation

with translation words from Paul's interlinear as shown.

The words translated ???and who will declare his generation??? have been translated as ???none can tell his struggle??? by Lamsa, ???who will narrate his time???? by Bauscher, "And his generation, who will declare it?" by Roth, and "Who can speak of his descendants?" in the Greek-based NIV. The referenced citation is from Isaiah 53:8 which Lamsa translates as "who can describe his anguish?" while the NIV has "Who can speak of his descendants?".

Is "and his generation" really the best translation of : hrdw ?
Is there a better translation of this phrase?

Thanks for your comments....
