Shlama lukhon,

Check out Yaqub 2:21 and let me know if Yaqub here has weaved a little wordplay with Isaac?

James 2:21 in English is: Abraham our father, was he not justified by works in offering his son Isaac upon the altar?

Notice in the Aramaic "offering Isaac" is "asiq le'iskhaq"
Qxsy0l Qs0

Asiq is not the ordinary word for "offering" ?

Whadayu guys think?

Awesome Akhi Dean!

You're right, the normal verbs for "sacrifice" are Brq and Xbd

The word Qs0 is a causitive and is derived from the root Qls meaning "to ascend" - in this case, to "offer up" ... cause the scent of the sacrifice to "go up."

It's a very idiomatic term for "sacrifice", but one that fit nicely in this word-play for Yaqub, because it sounds so close to Isaac's name. <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink1.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->
