Shlama Akhay,

Akhi Rob - in the Aramaic of Yukhanan, the city of "Cana" in Galilee (as it's known in the Western versions) is called "Qatne" - 0n=q The Peshitta is the only NT that calls the city by this name.

This is interesting that the Talmudic literature also refers to the city as lylgb 'nXq ("Qatne b'Galeel", placed in the tribe of Zebulon) - pointing to the original Semitic pronunciation for the name of the city.

Could this be an instance where Zorba simply missed the Teth character - or what do you think? What could have caused him to call this city "Cana"?
Wow, akhi Paul! I never caught that. <!-- s:rockedover: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/rockdover.gif" alt=":rockedover:" title="Rocked Over" /><!-- s:rockedover: -->

Hmmm... it's not listed in Jastrow's. I'll have to do a search through the Talmuds and see what I can find. Do you have any references?

Shlama w'taybutha,
Rob

The only quote I know of is in John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible located here:

This would be very interesting if true - kinda like "Tefillin" and the other Hebraicims found in the Peshitta!
