The old forum was filled with comments from Larry and AGR, maybe such a forum would help.

I'll start it off with a question:

Akhi Paul, since it is 0yx and not 0yxd in the Matthew 16:16, should it not be ???God of life??? in your translation instead of ???living God????

This would also make more sense when other Greek mss say "God of salvation"

Did I make a valid point or am I just pissing in the wind?

Hi Akhi,

Actually, because it doesn't have the Daleth proclitic in front of it, we would not translate it "of life."

If we say "Alaha d'Khayya" - that would mean "God of Life" - but the phrase there is "Alaha Khayya" (without the Daleth Proclitic) which means "living God."

Okay, if it was meant to be 'salvation', would it be called "God the Saviour"? Or "the saving God"?

Well, that's how we know that Zorba messed up here in your latest example.

He obviously mistook the two forms of "Khayya" - thought it was a noun ("life~salvation") instead of an adjective ("living~saving").

Actually, the mistake is very elementary, because to say "saving" (adjective) you would have to form the adjective PEAL or APHEL 0nyxm (see word# 7000, and Ephesians 5:23, 1Timothy 4:10)

But the adjective "living" is an irregular form, without the Meem in front - and is just spelled coincidentally the same way that "life" is spelled - 0yx

In summary, here are the two adjectives:
  • 0yx (#6954, PEAL) ("living")
    0nyxm (#7000, APHEL) ("saving~life-giving")

But, the first form is spelled identically in its Noun form:

0yx (#6974, PEAL) ("life")

Very easy mistake for Zorba to make! You see, both forms are PEAL for the adjective and for the noun.
