Also I am confused with what I have read so far from Brother Younan & Brother Silver's statements on what the Colophon of the Khabouris acctually says.

Brother Paul states that it says there that the Khabouris is a copy of an early 5th century text...but Brother Silver says it says that it is a copy of a 2nd century text....165 A.D.

So, what is the truth about what the Colophon reveals? does it ssay that its a Copy of a 165 A.D. or 400+ A.D. text?

I don't want to go around telling people something that is not true...and until I can read Aramaic myself good enough to check these things out...I must rely on my Brothers. <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Shlama Akhi Chuck:
The info I posted was a copy from Michael Rice's site accompanying the pages of the Khabouris manuscript. It is incorrect because it has interpreted the date of the original copy from which the Khabouris was transcribed (copied). The time frame is based upon the idea that the Roman persecution is what is referred to. However, as Akhi Paul has correctly stated it is referring to the Persian monarch Sapur II, who was a contemporary of Constantine. Hence, the confusion. So the original from which the Khabouris text was copied was in the fifth century, not the second century.
The Khabouris Peshitta text, as well as the Mingana Peshitta text are virtually the same. My preference is the Mingana for its textual clarity in Estrangelo (very easy reading), marginal notes and its completeness.

Ok....So it is to be told then, that the "Great Persecution" that the Colophon mentions is not that of Nero, but that of Sapur II ?

Steven, what is the date of the Mingana Codex...and does it give any clue as to where it was translated? And is it a 100% complete 22 book Eastern Peshitta Text in one scribal hand? Is it as old and better as the Yonan Codex?

Also...I have read some information about both the Khabouris and Yonan Codex, and it says that both were on some type of tour during the mid 1950s...the info seems to confuse the two Codex's though.

Thanks for your help.
Everyone needs to get on the same page with the date of the Khabouris Codex...I just read this today from the site that sells the AENT.

This page says that the Khabouris was scribed in the year 164...but noted that it is said by some to date from around the year 210...Paul says sometime around early 400s...and other sites say it is dated about the year 1090...so we have a swing time of about a 1000 years!!!

Anyway...I got a message back from Better Light...and they said they have no idea where either the Khabouris Codex is, nor where the person (Eric Rivera) is who made the images and had them with him when he left. So hopefully the better images will surface some day.

Anybody working on getting a printed copy of either the Mingana or the Yonan Codex?

What I would love to see is a real Aramaic/English interlinear printed edition with the direct words under each word like Paul has...speaking of that, what Aramaic Manuscript is the one shown here at Peshitta.org?
