I???m enjoying reading Andrew Roth???s Ruach Qadim. On page 106 of the downloaded edition he goes at length into the word Qananya that is miss translated due to a suggested confusion of two similar looking words Tanana (zealot) and Qananya (Canaanite). (Sorry, I can't copy and past the Estrangela text and sure don't know how to type it.)
If Andrew Roth is correct as to which is which, I am puzzled by the fact that the opposite translation of Qananya as "zealot" appears in the online text in peshitta.org.
Shlama Ozfire:
Welcome to the forum. Paul Younan's Interlinear translates "qananya" as zealot. Qananya is the Hebrew word for zealot and has been mistranslated as Canaanite in the Greek New Testament in Matthew 10:4 and Mark 3:8 but is correctly translated as zealot in Luke 6:15 and Acts 1:13. The four lists of the disciples are in agreement. They are only resolved in the Peshitta New Testament, but not in any Greek manuscript that I am aware of.

Shlama,
